An exceptional historical heritage

Located in Cannes , the Chateau de la Croix des Gardes has its origins at the beginning of the 20th century, precisely in 1919, when the wealthy Swiss industrialist Paul Girod acquires this vast plot of land on the heights of Cannes. Before this acquisition, the Croix des Gardes hill was mainly composed of farmland and forestry, punctuated by a few modest properties. Construction of the château itself began in 1919 and was completed in 1927, after eight years of painstaking work that radically transformed the hill's landscape. The estate takes its name from an ancient cross that once served as a landmark for sailors and was guarded by sentries, hence the name "Croix des Gardes".

The castle is part of the neo-Palladian architectural movement, very popular in prestigious residences of the early 20th century. This inspiration draws directly from the work of the 16th-century Italian architect Andrea Palladio, characterized by symmetrical facades, imposing columns, and harmonious proportions. The main residence is distinguished by its imposing facade adorned with Corinthian columns, its elegant balustrades, and its terraces offering breathtaking views of the Mediterranean. Mediterranean influences are also evident in the harmonious integration of the building into its surroundings and in the optimal orientation to take advantage of natural light and panoramic views.

The Château de la Croix des Gardes has had a succession of prestigious owners since its construction, each adding their stone to the historic edifice of the estate. In 1960, it was purchased by Gustave Leven, owner of the Perrier mineral water brand. Renovation work was undertaken at the time under the leadership of thearchitect Alan Gore who redesigned the facade in a Palladian architectural style. The English-born billionaire Christopher Parker then bought the property in 2016.

The location of the estate is not the result of chance but the result of a perfectly calculated strategic choice. Situated at an average altitude of 213 meters above sea level, the château occupies a dominant position on one of the highest points of the Croix des Gardes hill. Due to its dominant position, the château has become an essential visual landmark in the Cannes landscape, almost as emblematic as the Palace of Festivals or La Croisette.
