The story of a Provençal village in the hinterland

History La Colle-sur-Loup is rooted in a millennia-old past, as evidenced by the Neolithic burials of the Bianchi cave and the Ligurian oppidum of Montmeuille. From the Gallo-Roman occupation to the Middle Ages, marked by the Saracen invasions and the founding of the Canadel Priory Attached to the Lérins Abbey, the territory has always been a land of passage and refuge. The current village truly originated in 1537, following the expropriations related to the construction of the ramparts of Saint-Paul-de-Vence by Francis I. Long considered a prosperous agricultural suburb, La Colle asserted its power in the 18th century before obtaining its Communal independence in 1792Since then, it has become an iconic destination in the Provençal hinterland.
